Top Shelf: BMW Concept 8 Series

Earlier today, I was walking in the East Village and saw a new BMW 7-Series parked outside. It was raining kind of hard, and the car was shining like it had just been waxed crazily, even with the rain hitting it heavily. It’s a bigger car than I usually prefer, but in just looking at it, I couldn’t deny how nice of a vehicle it was. BMW is not only a favorite of ours here at AA, but they’re really such a great company in terms of being luxurious without the pretentious feel. I really had to marvel at its beauty out there today, and that sighting is partly what’s inspired this post for all you Bimmer fans out there.

At this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW has taken the opportunity to unveil its new Concept 8 Series. The vehicle in turn acts as a preview of BMW’s 8 Series Coupe, which is scheduled to arrive in 2018.
“The number 8 has always represented the pinnacle of sports performance and exclusivity at BMW,” explains Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG Harald Krüger.

“The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment. In the process, we will strengthen our claim to leadership in the luxury class.”

In showcasing what is to come from the German manufacturer, “The BMW Concept 8 Series is our take on a full-blooded high-end driving machine,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. “It is a luxurious sports car which embodies both unadulterated dynamics and modern luxury like arguably no other. For me, it’s a slice of pure automotive fascination.”
In combining the past with the future, the exterior highlights the interplay of a long bonnet and flowing roofline bringing explosive allure to the car’s flanks. The concept then boasts pronounced rear haunches and an aggressive rear bumper, while focusing on BMW’s commitment to air vents in the front fender. The vehicle is ultimately complemented by 21-inch wheels.

On the inside you will find a digital instrument cluster, squared-off steering wheel, and two-tone leather and microsuede with contrasting stitching, while the futuristic iDrive architecture comes equipped with a rotary controller made from Swarovski glass with a smoked quartz finish.

The entry level engine is said to be BMW’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, as you can also look forward to an impressive twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8, seen in the 750i.

Kicks Flow: Nike Air Foamposite One “Metallic Red”

There are sneakers that you hate to love. We all have them. They’re great kicks that we really want to rock, but see so many other people wearing them, so they lose their level of specialness to us. But on the flip-side, they’re so cool and fresh, that we have no choice but to cop and either wear or stash them in the collection for a bit.

The classic Nike Air Foamposite One that originally dropped in 2012, will be returning in its popular Metallic Red colorway once again this month, in celebration of the sneaker’s 20th anniversary.

Marking as the model’s first retro rendition, the silhouette essentially stays true to its original design with the vibrant hue covering its molded Foamposite upper. Black nubuck detailing along the eyelets, a mesh tongue, heel pull tabs, the signature Penny Hardaway cent logo, and a traditional icy translucent outsole solidifies its overall profile. These drop on Friday, and should run around $220.

Kicks Flow: adidas Originals x Parley UltraBOOST

Another day, another really rad running shoe. We try to stay consistent with what we co-sign, as to not lose focus on what’s really good quality out there. And one thing is for sure, running kicks are everything right now. You can hit pretty much any brand and get a great shoe to run in, that will double as a nice casual pair of sneakers, as well.

Tomorrow, adidas is dropping a new collaboration with Parley that transforms plastic waste from the ocean into a high-quality shoe design with variations of the popular Ultra Boost 3.0 and Ultra Boost Uncaged silhouettes.

As a nod to promoting environmental awareness, the prime-knit upper’s yarn made from marine waste, is equipped with the brand’s signature boost midsole unit, and flexible outsole that adjusts to your feet and to the ground with every step. These are retailing for around $200, and again, hit stores tomorrow. Pick these up.

Kicks Flow: adidas "PureBOOST DPR"

Some people go with the gym for their running, but there’s nothing like running outside. Sure, you miss out on watching TV while getting your miles in, but nothing feels better than being outdoors and getting your run in. Lots of sneakers cater to indoor running, and have soles that wouldn’t exactly last if you’re into running outside. But the good people over at adidas have constructed a new shoe that’s made for outdoor running, that we think is a winner.

The new PureBOOST DPR, is the latest entry in adidas’s Boost range. The sneaker is in turn engineered to deliver a raw, real and adaptive street running experience. The brand’s signature Boost technology, blended with a new 8mm head-to-toe offset, stores and unleashes energy more effectively. Its features include a one-piece engineered circular knit upper, heel fit counter system, wider forefoot, Stretchweb outsole, and Boost tooling, which would make for a great street-run this spring and summer. These are retailing for $150, and will hit stores on May 18th.

One would assume that we’ve all blown our tax refunds by now. But that doesn’t mean we can’t start saving again, for something a little more Top Shelf. One of the things we always have to break the bank for, is a car. And depending on your taste, buying a vehicle will surely hit you heavily in the pocket. But is that really something that would stop you from going all out for the car you want? Probably not. And we have one today that we think is worth saving up for.

For their most recent creation, Project Khan has improved the most accomplished Range Rover ever made, the Range Rover Sport SVR, upgrading the vehicle to “Pace Car” specification.

The front of the Range Rover welcomes an aggressive splitter that enhances functionality, while also maintaining the safety features implemented through the original design. To complement, Project Kahn added wider rear wheel arches and front arches with integrated air dams to frame 23-inch RS alloy wheels. The stealthy Volcanic Rock Satin paint job has then been accented by a rear deck lid spoiler, roof wing and custom color detailing, further enhancing the updated look of the Pace Car edition.

Project Kahn’s in-house craftsmen took on the interior of the Range Rover as well, utilizing hand upholstered seats with quilted and perforated leather, while additional details include vented aluminum pedals and stainless steel door entry sill plates.
