Tech & Toys: ThinkGeek's Working ‘Back to the Future 2′ Hoverboard

Those moments we loved dearly from classic cinema never seem to leave us too far behind. It may not be completely practical, but it’s the next best thing until they develop a full-sized replica, says ThinkGeek of their mini hoverboard. So I’m perfectly cool with this one for now. The kid in me just needs to be. 

The desktop toy, modeled after Marty McFly’s own levitating transportation device from Back to the Future 2, is only an inch-and-a-half long and comes with its own track, which is powered by 5 high-grade rare earth magnets. The track, clocking in at only 4″ long itself, boasts a small bend so that the board can be put in and stay in motion with a small flick. I don’t know about you, but I’m buying one of these. Might get two just in case one breaks. Need a backup.

The longtime AA followers know that there are certain shoes that we’ve always kept tabs on. Just those same ol’ classic kicks that never seem to get old or played out for us. We all keep these kinds of sneakers nearby, as they’ve never let us down. No matter how long we’ve rocked them, they’re there for us. 

The Sweatshirt Collection from New Balance‘s Summer 2015 range comprises four individual color-ways of the classic 574, reflecting the emergence of the cotton fleece crewneck as a wardrobe must-have in recent times. Each pair in the pack showcases an upper utilizing soft heathered jersey, along with subtle fleece details on the tongue top and logos.

The past isn’t really “the past” anymore. We are rocking kicks that dropped over two decades ago, like they’re new releases. Sometimes we just can’t go, and with the way these sneakers are looking, I don’t think we will anytime soon.

Top Shelf: 2016 BMW 7-Series Individual

Back to what we do with the Top Shelf thing. We try so hard not to pick favorites, but it’s tough when the home team keeps releasing heat like this. After raising an insane number of eyebrows with the initial reveal of the 2016 7-Series, BMW has now officially unveiled their BMW 7-Series Individual, which further extends the customization offerings for those with even higher expectations. 

Right off the bat, this example of what customization program can offer draws you in with an Almandine Brown metallic paint finish, which works with the deep contours of the 7-Series to present an elegant look. Inside, Mediterranean Brown takes care of the full-grain Merino leather that is balanced with Piano Finish Black trim and other bespoke accessories, including the dash and steering wheel. 

However, if this example 2016 BMW 7-Series Individual doesn’t float your yacht, eight other paint finishes are available for the exterior, each with additional pigments to help you achieve a unique finish and character, as well as a range of interior material and color options and equipment packages like 20-inch wheels, and custom aluminum trim.

Kicks Flow: Nike Free Inneva Woven Tech SP - Tropical Colors

We’ve had no shortage of dopeness to post lately. There are seriously so many cop-able pairs of kicks dropping, we’re definitely trying to showcase all of our favorites. Summer’s already here, so we’ve all been sporting our stashes, but just when you thought the supply had dried up, something else comes out that you just need to add to the collection. 

Nike’s previous Free Inneva Woven rendition was a decidedly dark affair, but now they’ve lightened the mood with “Sunset Glow” and “Light Aqua” arrangements of the cult-favorite sneaker. Featuring a wholly tonal makeup, the shoes boast a full-length woven upper and an all-familiar Free 5.0 sole unit. 

The new Free Inneva Woven Tech styles will be releasing at Germany’s Solebox tomorrow, with stateside releases expected soon after.

Architecture: Reyes Ríos x Larraín Studio - Climate Change House

Part beauty, part technological innovation, we all want that in our homes. Don't’ we? Extending their design portfolio, Reyes Ríos and Larraín Studio architects have designed this residential property in Mexico, where the company is based. The idea behind the design was to foster a socially inclusive atmosphere, which led to the centerpiece of the house, a large terrace that connects the home’s internal living spaces with a proportioned pool. 

The remainder is contained within a single-storey L-shaped floor plan, favorably oriented to ensure constant ventilation and daylight. The three main bedrooms all open onto landscaped courtyards in an effort to benefit from the surroundings.

The architects deliberately contrasted soft marble surfaces with hardwood flooring and cast walls using reinforced concrete to ensure that the home takes on a number of different appearances throughout the day, in accordance with the region’s climatic conditions.

Kicks Flow: NikeLab - Roshe Cortez “Forrest Gump”

I really love themed-kicks. Not all of them are great, but the ones that hit home or take us back to a special moment are always copped immediately. One of your favorite movies as a kid, yeah, that’s a great thing to see conceptualized in kick-form. 

The Nike Roshe LD-1000, in collaboration with fragment design, was an instant hit earlier this spring. In an interesting new mash-up, Nike now presents the NikeLab Roshe Cortez. The iconic OG white leather, red Swoosh version of the Nike Cortez, as seen in the movie Forrest Gump, has been fused with a Nike Roshe One outer sole. 

The outcome is the perfect balance between the old and the new, resulting in a comfortable and light weight summer sneaker with a vintage appeal. The NikeLab Roshe Cortez is currently available at NikeLab locations.

Kicks Flow: Saucony & Epitome - Shadow 5000 “Righteous One”

One of our sleepers that we’ve always showed crazy love to, continues to drop heat like it’s nothing. Saucony and Atlanta’s Epitome store have teamed up to deliver a fresh take on the iconic Shadow 5000 silhouette. 

The “Righteous One” takes inspiration from the 65-foot “Big Fish” landmark located in front of Epitome’s boutique, and features high-quality pig suede throughout the middle with premium leather fish scales on the toe and back. The teal upper is contrasted with metallic gold accents and a gold-speckled midsole is added for a finishing touch.

Tech & Toys: SanDisk Unveil the World’s Tiniest USB Drive

I remember the first USB drive that I bought. It was probably like ’06 or whatever, but I spent like $175 on this Sony piece, that only had like 25GB’s of storage. Oh, how times have changed. We all need to save things. With the way we are with phones these days, we definitely need to save pics. And for my music heads, whether you’re just a fan, or creating your own, there’s nothing like having tons and tons of gigs for storage. But imagine having that in a ridiculously tiny drive.

Never before has there been a USB stick the size of a penny, until now. Electronics company SanDisk has unveiled their most ambitious project yet, the Ultra Fit USB 3.0 which appears to be smaller than a dime and carries a whopping 128 GB of space. The drive can store up to 16 hours of 1080p video with read speeds stretching up to 130 MB per second, allowing users to move content up to 10 times faster than with a standard USB 2.0 drive. By way of example, users could potentially transfer a full-length movie in less than 40 seconds.

Whether it’s practical or not remains the question, but for those who are looking for the niftiest gadgets currently on the market, SanDisk’s Ultra Fit USB 3.0 is not one to miss. Look for the drive now at select retailers worldwide.

Top Shelf: BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage

Faithful followers of the BM brand, we are. So we had to share this piece of beauty with you all today. I heard some heavy criticism for this model, but have also heard a lot of praise for it. BMW is known to be presenting impressive concept cars every year at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este and it seems to be no different this year. With the new BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, the design team pays homage to the iconic 3.0 CSL, a timeless classic and iconic BMW Coupé from the 1970s. With its homage design studies BMW demonstrates how important the past is for the future of the brand, sticking to the values that it once established. In the case of the 3.0 CSL these values include lightweight design and performance. 

Racing genes and elegance have been combined in the exterior design of the car, which has been mostly built using carbon fiber. The laser light and LED technology used on the aggressive front and back of the car set nice modern accents. The overall direction of the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage by the brand was to give it motorsport genes and yet a certain elegant appeal, with the result being the perfect fusion of the two.
