Kicks Flow: monkey time x ASICS Gel Lyte V "Lights & Shadows"

Groovy..

I always think back to middle school and even elementary school, when trying to figure out what my favorite kicks were back then. There were a ton, and some I’ve forgotten about, but get reminded of when I see relaunches and things like that. You have that “I used to have those!” moment. And one of the kicks that I always loved back then, were ASICS Gel’s. My dad bought me a pair when I was like 11-12, and they were the same as a pair he had too. Super comfortable, but stylish as well. So I always liked ASICS after that, and hoped they’d always be available in different models for me to cop. Since then, I’ve kinda stayed on course and have bought a lot of pairs that have shaped my “sweats and kicks” looks for years.

This season finds the ASICS Gel Lyte V spotlighted in a new collaboration, one made in partnership with Japan’s monkey time, a sub-brand of United Arrows. Dubbed “Lights & Shadows,” the shoe features a simple black and white color scheme that takes inspiration from the classic noir films of Hollywood’s past.

A micro-perf white leather base is overlaid with smooth white premium leather, while contrasting hits of black finishes the contrast black tongue, laces and heel. A speckled midsole rounds out the details. The promotional shots look like something out of a Mike Hammer film from back in the day, which makes them even more awesome. Expect the kicks to launch April 25th exclusively at monkey time Harajuku and Kyoto, followed by a global release on May 9th.

Architecture: Zgharta House by platau

Serious..

We get emails all the time asking why we’ve slowed down with posting the homes for the Architecture label, and the answer is usually just that we haven’t seen enough coolness to share with everyone. This has always been one of the more popular sections of the blog, but quietly. So we’ve been working hard to find properties that we think everyone would enjoy and share themselves. We definitely want to keep the quantity looking right, but also want to make sure that the quality is always there as well. The feedback we’ve gotten is great, and we’re working toward bringing way more homes to the site. With that said, let’s start with today’s.

platau architects have created a stone-encased residence in the town of Zgharta, North Lebanon. Situated in a Mediterranean olive grove, the home enjoys an uninhibited view of the agrarian plain and surrounding mountains thanks to its inclined standpoint.

Playing on the topographical contours of the landscape, the Zgharta house is divided into two, L-shaped horizontal levels: the lower one comprises the sleeping quarters, while the upper one is dedicated to the main living areas, which include a kitchen and dining area.

Top Shelf: Ferrari "Tailor Made" California T

This is where the “lifestyle” part of the site comes into play. There’re just things that will always spark inspiration in us, or motivate us to work harder and dream bigger. Most times, ambition is fueled by what we hope to one day attain for ourselves. On the fun side, we like to focus more on the toys for adults, which always seem to show themselves in the form of cars and gadgets.

Ferrari has unveiled a beautiful bespoke California T, specially created to exemplify the Italian automaker’s new “Tailor Made” program which allows clients to commission a car according to their wishes. Ferrari’s design team chose the California due to its reputation as an elegant, sporty and versatile series. The vehicle is redone with a timeless sophistication, drawing inspiration from two effortless beauties, actress Ingrid Bergman and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. The car is finished in a demure ”Grigio Ingrid”, named after Bergman who chose the same shade for her Ferrari 375MM, gifted to her by Roberto Rossellini in 1954.

The luxe materials and detail on the interior evoke the First Lady’s impeccable taste, including the New Zealand wool floor mats, and the waxed edges on the leather of the central console and the inside of the doors.

Top Shelf: BMW Apollo Streamliner Motorcycle

There are definitely levels to transportation. I have always loved bikes, but could never muster up the courage to actually buy or ride one myself. I think my love for them comes from an admiration for the engineering that goes into making such awesome machines. We spend a lot of time going through content to post and every now and then something comes across the desk that just blows minds away. Just so happens that this post comes courtesy of our good friends over at BMW, which makes it even more dope to us.

Created by industrial designer Mehmet Doruk Erdem, this futuristic BMW Apollo Streamliner concept was designed for…what else…speed. Erdem fashioned the bike as a personal project, crafted for speed record attempts in Salt Lake. While the overall aesthetic of the motorcycle is no doubt futuristic and something you’d see in a sci-fi movie, Mehmet did award the Apollo with some traditional BMW styling.

Along with the stylish brown saddle, the bike boasts an exposed engine and is highlighted by the large, sloping front section that makes it ultra aerodynamic.

Kicks Flow: Nike Internationalist Leather “Summit White”

Groovy..

The weather sets the tone for so much in regard to which kicks to rock. And with spring here now, the choices aren’t getting any easier. We all have our own little aesthetic boundaries, which can range from totally basic to wild and loud. I’ve always been more on the toned-down side of the sneaker game. I don’t mind rocking something that may look a little busy every now and then, but the more basic, the better for me, usually. So when I see brands dropping kicks that have more of a scaled-down feel to them, I pay close attention and get the moola out.

Nike delivers a premium version of their classic running silhouette, the Internationalist, with a leather iteration in “Summit White.” Sporting a suede upper, brown leather heel tab and white Swoosh, the light-colored sneaker arrives just in time for the warm weather ahead. Premium detailing and a light colorway takes this version beyond the track field and onto the streets seamlessly. You can pick up a pair from Germany’s Afew store now.

Kicks Flow: fragment design x Nike Sock Dart SP “Oreo”

One thing that’s required as a sneakerhead, is keeping your ear to the street. Or, I guess, your eyes online. I kept seeing these kicks being posted online, from friends that work at Nike and just other random collectors, and had no clue as to what they actually were. I searched and searched and starting hitting people up because I needed to know. Once I found out, not only was I pleased to know they were dropping this week, but I knew I had to get a pair for myself.

Meet the “Oreo” Sock Dart from Nike and fragment design. The cookie-flavored kicks account for the fourth iteration from the recent pack by Hiroshi Fujiwara and the Swoosh. The lightweight low-tops showcase a laceless design, utilizing a translucent mid-foot strap to keep you locked in. The upper has been comprised of breathable mesh, as the midsole then highlights the speckled “Oreo” treatment.

The fragment design x Nike Sock Dart SP “Oreo” is available now at select shops such as the UK’s END.

Kicks Flow: Nike Internationalist “Mint”

There are like two times of the year when bringing out those fresh kicks you’ve dying to wear really happens. The first, is fall. Or what could also be called “back to school” time. Traditionally a huge time for people to stunt and bring out their best kicks for all to see. The other time, is spring. Weather is starting to clear up, and it’s nicer out. No other time than the present affords more of an opportunity for you to show off your newest and freshest footwear.

So for this spring, Nike has dropped off a new minty fresh iteration of the Internationalist. The vintage-style runner has been done up in suede and leather, bearing contrasting Swoosh branding alongside as well as atop the tongue and at the heel. A white midsole provides further offset underneath, while tonal laces then complete the Nike Sportswear release.

The Nike Internationalist “Mint” is now available at select stockists like Afew

Kicks Flow: Nike Air Max 1 PRM “Picnic”

Good Moola..

I’ve honesty never been a fan of themed-kicks. We’ve all seen them. Sneakers that have been released, but then return as some corny theme. It’s usually based on color, but then they’ve tried superhero-themed kicks. There have been shoes designed with galaxy themes, cartoon characters, you name it. Never liked them. I love creativity though, and it’s not so much themes that I haven’t liked, as much as how forced they always seemed to be. But sometimes, and it’s pretty rare, brands get it right. And when they do, everything about them just screams dopeness.

With spring time comes picnic time and Nike has decided to dedicate a special version of its Nike Air Max 1 to the outdoor discipline. While the upper is a subtle hint at the picnic basket, the real red/white check in-sole perfectly replicates the iconic picnic blanket and the Nike logo on the in-sole hints at the paper plates used at almost every picnic. While the inspiration is clear, the overall design of the sneaker remains timeless and easy to wear. You can pick up the new limited edition Nike Air Max 1 PRM “Picnic” now from Sneakerpolitics.
