Top Shelf: McLaren 650S Le Mans Special Edition Tributes F1 GTR

Serious..

As you all know, we work in trying to get people to aspire. Antlife Academy kind of specializes in catering to the dreamers out there who have a path set for themselves that they won’t stray from. Sometimes success can be related to the things that we can purchase for ourselves. Things that will add a little bit of fun to our lives by way of excess. For some people, that comes by way of luxury automobiles. And since we’re no stranger to drooling over cars that you never seem to see on the streets, we thought we’d keep the love going in showcasing one that will surely make you want to get your dividends upward bound.

Honoring the 20th anniversary of the McLaren F1 GTR victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the special edition 650S Le Mans coupe was hailed by the vehicle’s designer, Peter Stevens, as “a fantastic homage to that original (F1) design, and to the incredible race result achieved by the team in 1995 at one of the most difficult, and most challenging races in the world.”

Featuring a roof-mounted air filtration system, exterior aesthetics include a metallic Sarthe Grey, minor louvres on the front wings to reduce pressure over the front wheels, and ‘Le Mans Edition’ lightweight alloy wheels. Black leather with orange accents veil the interior while a Le Mans logo is embossed on the headrest of each seat.

Kicks Flow: Cone Mills x New Balance ML1300DC “Cone Denim”

Righteous..

N’s up, my people. We’re never quiet about our love for a good kicks collabo. And while so many drop each year, it seems that only a few are truly worth mentioning. It’s an art. And we think the secret is in showcasing a little of both brands in a way that speaks to a collective high level of freshness. Well, if that makes sense to you. So we had to show a little love to this pair that we think will be a force to be reckoned with this year.

New Balance turns to longstanding textile manufacturer Cone Mills for this latest Spring/Summer 2015 ML1300DC. The two deep-rooted American imprints bring us this new running silhouette, executed in a mixture of premium materials. Starting with a solid slate black nubuck base, the sneaker is accented with soft grained tan leather and raw indigo denim in place of the classic mesh panelling on the upper.

Kicks Flow: Nike Diamond-Studded Mercurial CR7 “Rare Gold” Boots

Serious..

Craftsmanship is something that we don’t give credit to enough when we speak on footwear. We definitely love how they perform for us and feel, but we rarely speak to the work that goes into constructing what we wear on our feet. So today, we thought we’d change up a little and show some love to the work, but also the aesthetic. Some shoes just deserve that level of shine.

In a wide margin of victory, Cristiano Ronaldo successfully defended his world footballer of the year crown, capturing the Balloon d’Or for a third time. Two years in a row. The Real Madrid forward ran away with the vote count, doubling up on the next highest contender – FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi. His impressive performance last year which culminated in a European Cup title helped tip the scales in his favour. Nike, Ronaldo’s sponsor, marked the occasion by unveiling the Mercurial CR7 “Rare Gold.”

Commemorating his achievements and a work ethic that is second to none, the boots come in a gold colorway and are painstakingly embedded with micro-diamonds – a first for Nike – in a long, arduous process that required finesse and perseverance: attributes that describe one of football’s leading men.

See the boots in action when Ronaldo laces them up this week and shop the current collection from Nike.com.

Top Shelf: 2015 Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS

Good Moola..

The Top Shelf label on here kinda acts as our aspirational category in a way. You know we love our cars, so we just have to keep pushing the ones that we’d kill to see in our garages soon. There are definitely some staples, and if you hit the archives, you’ll see our favorites stocked up pretty nicely in there. There’re are so many great vehicles coming to the assembly line in 2015, and we hope to be one of the first in bringing them to you.

Unveiled recently at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, Porsche has pulled back the drapes on its new 911 variant, the 911 Targa 4 GTS. According to Porsche, this latest model is a distillation of performance characteristics to an all new degree, with increased power, all-wheel drive configuration and the option of Porsche’s 7-speed Doppelkupplung gear-shifting system.

Aesthetically, the stylish Targa bar is a new roof concept hearkening to the feel of driving a drop-top Porsche. The performance-oriented 911 Targa 4 GTS will be made available from Porsche beginning in April for $132,800.

Kicks Flow: New Balance Made in USA 1400 “Aqua”

Righteous..

There was no way you could visit Antlife Academy last year and not hear about our appreciation for New Balance. NB has always been great to us, and just one of those classic lines that just never seems to lose their dopeness. I probably had my first pair when I was in the first or second grade, if I’m recalling correctly. And I used to want to wear them all the time. They’re ridiculously comfortable, and simple enough to still look fresh in, and also be able to pair with all kinds of outfits. But enough about that..

New Balance kicks into gear for the Spring/Summer 2015 season, adding a fresh take on their 1400 sneaker to the lineup. An all-suede upper is dressed in a lush azure hue, which combined with New Balance’s highly cushioned soles will make for an ideal footwear option when the sun finally shows its face.

Keep an eye out for the sneaker when it drops later in the season. New Balance aficionados can whet their appetite in the meantime by checking out a slew of the brand’s recent releases.

Architecture: Aēsop Emporium Melbourne by KTA Studio

Australian cosmetics brand Aēsop have opened an emporium in their hometown of Melbourne. Recruiting design agency KTA for assistance with the design, the style of the store follows a similar vein to their Rundle Street Adelaide store, but this time it’s distinguished by a singular use of native Australian spotted gum timber.

Sustainably sourced, the wood creates a warm and inviting interior, complimented by the display cabinets and LED projector lighting. The simplicity of the interior design allows the products themselves take center stage – an ethos reflected in every aspect of the company. You can also view their short film “The Guild of Artisans,” in which they explore their company’s craftsmanship in more detail.

Kicks Flow: adidas Originals Superstar “Vintage Deluxe” Pack

adidas Originals follows up their OriginalSuperstar film with yet another pack of shell-toes for early 2015. It’s no secret at this point that the German athletic giant is looking to make 2015 the Year of the Superstar – just like they made 2014 the Year of the Stan Smith – and the few Superstars released already provide early evidence they might very well make that happen.

The “Vintage Deluxe” pack features the iconic silhouette dressed in a premium boot leather constructed upper, with the rubber shell toe and contrast accents applied on the three stripes and heel. Overall, the release includes colorways in black, green, navy and scarlet red.

If you’re interested in getting on the Superstar trend before it hits it big in the coming months, stop by the UK’s Foot Patrol now, while they last.

Kicks Flow: Nike Air Max Tavas “Grey/Bright Crimson”

Radical..

Kicks are weird sometimes. And so are we. We have always wanted to look fresh, that’s a given. But we mostly ignore the fact that we barely wear sneakers for what they were actually made for. No one really thinks about that at all. We buy what we think we’d look good in, and these shoes we wanted to spread love to today, are no different than the other hundreds of pairs we own that we just think would look cool to rock.

With the Nike Air Max Tavas, the brand recently introduces a new modern interpretation of its Air Max aesthetic, mixing the seamless upper that people have learned to love on a Roshe Run with the Air unit and design elements of the iconic Air Max 1.

The result is a clean sneaker that sort of replicates the success of the women’s Air Max Thea for men. This weekend the Nike Air Max Tavas released in a new grey/bright crimson colorway. You can get it now from Sneakerpolitics.
