Top Shelf: RM Auctions - Steve McQueen 1970 Porsche 911S

Everybody knows I'm a huge Steve McQueen fan. So this post was a must, just to salute the legend of cool. RM Auctions revealed a couple of days back that the famous slate grey 1970 Porsche 911S featured within the 1971 film Le Mans will be put on the auction block August 19-20. Made famous by the “King of Cool” Steve McQueen, the car was once owned by the iconic actor, taken back to California after the filming of Le Mans was complete. Although the famed vehicle has exchanged hands over the years, it still remains in mostly original condition. At the moment no estimate is available as to what the car will fetch, but the screen time and legend of McQueen’s ownership are two factors large enough to drive up the bidding.

Top Shelf: 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe

We’ve seen some teaser images, but now comes a full in-depth look at the 2012 BMW 6 SeriesCoupe. Setting the tone is a more aggressively angled fascia (a definite trend among performance-oriented cars in the past few production years – note the Jaguar XKR-S for a prime example). Body styling has been tightened up a bit for 2012, but the most notable features of the new 6 Series are in what’s under the hood, and inside the cockpit. Power is derived from a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, which produces 400 horsepower between 5,500 rpm and 6,400 rpm, and a more-than-respectable 450 pound-feet of torque from 1,750 rpm up through 4,500 rpm. Controlling this power is an eight-speed automatic, with the popular option to shift via steering wheel-mounted F1 style paddles.

Flicking these, the car does 0-60 in 4.8, to an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. In the cabin, the 2012 6 Series is packed with the latest electronics BMW has to offer, all centered around a 10.2-inch high-definition screen which serves as the portal for visual information. Options include available Lane Departure Warning, Active Blind Spot detection, Rear and Top View Cameras, a Parking Assistant and a three-dimensional heads-up display.

Kicks Flow: Nike Air Foamposite One Pewter/Black

Originally spotted back in December, the pewter/black colorway in Nike’s heralded Air Foamposite One sees a release this month. The shoes feature a two-tone colorway like past releases with icey clear outsoles and all of the details you’d expect, including Penny Hardaway’s logo hit on the heels. Retail is set at $200 USD with availability come March 19 through finer Nike retail accounts, including Wish.

Kicks Flow: Nike Sportswear 21 Mercer – ?Uestlove X Nike Dunk High Pack Launch

It was a moment on contradiction this Friday evening. As the temperature dipped close to freezing and the evening rolled in, the line-up in front of Nike Sportswear at 21 Mercer Street got longer instead. There was a good reason behind it, the meister of percussion, ?uestlove, was to host a ceremony of music and kicks at the space for the launch of ?uestlove x Nike Dunk High Pack. Preparation was underway hours before the event. Nike staffers hurried with the arrangements. Limited edition t-shirts, outline of Quest himself with in initials “21 M” and a period mark in alternated colors of red and yellow lined the cash wrap table. In the back of the store, it was a tricolor display in numerical orders, all ready to counter the on-edge crowd building up outside. Then the doors opened….

In his appreciation to the people who waited for hours, ?uestlove huddled the first 5 to enter and greeted them with a surprise, they will get their shoes for free on his behave. Smiles and plenty of cheers later, the affable Phili native begin his rotation of personalized each purchase with a number and signature statement. All ended with a hand off and a fist pound. As the night hurried on, the DJ/drummer simply needed a break before a serious onset of carpal tunnel syndrome. A brilliant idea was devised – a caricature of himself on each box would be sufficed. All told, some 60+ boxes changed hands before the man himself spun the evening away with a mix funk, Michael Jackson, and classic hip-hop!

The space was designed by teams in Japan and the United States to illustrate New Era’s high standards for quality. New Era Tokyo is the first of several New Era stores scheduled to open in 2011. Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Chicago are the next cities on the list.

Dopeness: ONE At Slam City Skates – KR3W + Supra Flagship Store London

Once home of Rough Trade record store, the subterranean space of Slam City Skates seen legendary performances by likes of Pavement, Stereolab, PJ Harvey and more. It hosted the first London for the unlikely trio called Beastie Boys, while a second home to the Kurt Cobain when he’s in town. Now, after a quarter of century, the space will be home to a new set of talents. With help from pro skaters Chad Muska, Stevie Williams and Ali Boulala, the renowned basement of Slam City Skates opened this weekend as ONE at Slam City Skates, a special retail space curated by One Distribution of KR3W and Supra. To serve as the London flagship for both KR3W and Supra, the hidden storefront offers a hint of its storied past in the annal of music. In the meantime, Londoners now have a go to spot for hard to find KR3W or Supra merchandises. In part to its music heritage, the space will also be releasing special items throughout the year.

Top Shelf: Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 – Successor Of Lamborghini Murciélago

Lamborghini continues its fighting bull tradition this morning as the exotic car maker unveils the replacement to the often mispronounced Murciélago. Having new competitors like PAGANI C9 Huayra and Bugatti Veyron on its crosshair, the new Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 is a leaner, meaner beast than its predecessor. Like all Lamborghini model, one can trace back Aventador’s lineage to a 1993 fighting bull of the same name at Spain’s Saragossa Arena. Its build, however, is anything but a legacy from the past. Developed with the help from aerospace giant Boeing, the cockpit is of one-piece carbon fiber, weighs in at a mere 324 pounds.

Rated at 690 horsepower, its new 6.5-liter V12 powerplant is able to propel the 3,500 pound beast from 0-60 mph in less 2.9 seconds, faster than you can finish reading this write-up. What are not visible are the innovations and features that went into this matador slayer. As Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO ofAutomobili Lamborghini stated, “”The Aventador is a jump of two generations in terms of design and technology, it’s the result of an entirely new project…” What is more attractive, aside from its bloody red Arancio Argos colorway, is its price at around $370,000. A bargain considering most of its counterparts easily cost double or triple of that.
