Kicks Flow: New Balance M1300BG

Serious..

Y’all know it’s always N’s Up around here! The 574’s have been tearin’ the streets up for a minute, on their comeback, but there’s so many other models droppin’ that deserve some shine too!

A New Balance staple since its introduction in the mid-80s’, the classic running shoe sees a suitable blue and grey color selection that complements both the lightweight suede and breathable mesh upper. As with most New Balance runners, ENCAP technology is incorporated into the midsole to ensure maximum stability and cushioning. The M1300BG is available now at KithNYC.com with a retail price of $140 USD.

Dopeness: Porsche Bicycle by Bastiaan Kok

Kinda serious..

We know people are never that crazy about concepts. Either the concept just sucks, or it’s too good to be true. What’s really dope about them, is how they continue to show us that being innovative, will always inspire other designers to get on their toes with their next projects. Which bring us to our new favorite here.

Influenced by the iconic Porsche 911 race car series, Dutch designer Bastiaan Kok has created the Porsche Bicycle. For now only on paper, the bike definitely looks promising. The single piece alloy frame with integrated head lights looks amazing and gives the bike a sort of retro futuristic look.

Classic Music: Masta Ace Incorporated "SlaughtaHouse" (1993)

Timeless..

All of my friends that I grew up with were addicts for music, Hip Hop music, mostly. All we talked about back then was new music, and what we liked and didn’t. It was, as it is today, our lives. I remember when Masta Ace dropped SlaughtaHouse back then. One of my boys had copped it on CD and was goin’ crazy for the album. I had seen the video for “Jeep Ass Niguh” and liked that track a lot, so I was definitely tryna hear what the whole album sounded like. I remember finally buyin’ it mad late, after everybody had already owned it, and being mad at myself for taking so long to get it. The album was and STILL is incredible! For cats like us back then who were all about graf’ and Hip Hop, we kinda felt like the album spoke to us. It was almost like we were connected to the subject matter.

The album itself was loosely conceptualized around mockin’ the “gangsta rap” scene that was pretty popular back then. We all thought that half of the so-called “gangstas and killers” we saw in those videos back then were actin’ anyway, so we really dug how Ace spoke on that, over the course of the album. SlaughtaHouse was just so well put together, from the skits and interludes, to the actual song sequence. It was a highly-slept on masterpiece, but a classic, no doubt. The production was ridiculous, and the lyrics, as expected, were all on point. My favorite tracks have always been “The Mad Wunz”, “Jeep Ass Niguh”, “Style Wars”, “Saturday Night Live”, “Boom Bashin’”, “Crazy Drunken Style” & “Ain’t U Da Masta”. It’s just a dope album that reminds me of my childhood, but I doubt any true Hip Hop head can deny how innovative Ace and company were with this album. It’s really stood the test of time. If you don’t own it, you should.

Dopeness: Staple Design x London Undercover Pigeon Umbrella

Good Moola..

Essential as it may be, the umbrella doesn’t necessarily get a lot of love on rainy streets as a fashion accessory, but since 2008, London Undercover has been doing their best to turn that stigma around. This new collaboration with Staple Design from New York City probably won’t hurt. True to London Undercover style, the umbrella features a hearty double-layered construction with an environmentally-conscious Beech wood shaft and handle.

The umbrella itself is a canvas for Staple Design to fill with careful detailing, like an all-over pigeon print on the inside, and that signature bird-dropping hit on the tri-color exterior. You can pick up one of these limited-edition umbrellas from REED SPACE for $185 USD.

Dopeness: Nigel Sylvester in Gumball 3000

YESSIR!!

When you have a fleet of exotic cars to keep you at pace, its no mere road trip across the U.S. With “Sea to Shining Sea” as this year’s theme, the 14th edition of Gumball 3000 kicked off in New York City on May 31st. Tagged along for this voyage like no other was Nigel Sylvester, and while a globe-trotter already on his various BMX tour, Sylvester was still a first time Gumballer who took in the scenes from this journey of a lifetime.

From his sent-off at NYC’s Times Square by “Big Brother” DJ Clark Kent, a brief chase of Mercedes SLS AMG on his trusted steed, to excursions at Indy 500, the Grand Canyon, and finally the literal crossing of the finishing line in Los Angeles, each of Sylvester’s moments in the race captures on film and photos by Nike Sportswear. Check out the various stops on Sylvester’s tour across the nation and his upcoming video, No Regrets.

For Spring/Summer 2012, adidas Originals is pulling from the 1970s archive to release a new iteration to the storied Greenstar. Appropriately dubbed a “vintage” release, the pair boasts a yellowed and slightly weather rubber outsole.

The retro feel is further solidified in a tainted hue that embellishes the laces and interior lining. The plush green leather upper is positioned against contrasting Three Stripes and a white leather heel hit. Look for this Greenstar Vintage to hit select adidas Originals stockists next month including Crooked Tongues.

Fly Season: Outlier 2012 The FreeShell

Cop-worthy..

Part of what makes Outlier garments unique is the fact that many of their design concepts have escaped being pigeonholed into the conventional, activity-specific rationale typically found in modern, technical outerwear. The super-versatile new FreeShell is one such example. It is simple in concept and minimal in execution, but utilizes the complexities of a signature Outlier fabric story (highly water-resistant and breathable four-way stretch Schoeller Dryskin Extreme).

It features a carefully tailored and articulated fit, to achieve a level of go-anywhere wearability across a highly varied range of urban and outdoor landscapes. Thoughtful Outlier touches abound such as a modestly elongated back, hidden stash pocket, and a weatherproof three-piece hood if the weather takes a turn for the worst. The FreeShell is available in Seapunk Green or Slate Grey for $365 USD from the Outlier online shop, but move quickly because many offerings from the Brooklyn design house aren’t available for very long.
