Some Otha Sh*t: Sartorialist x Burberry (Art Of The Trench)

Mo' flavas..

From Sherlock Holmes to film noir– whether you are a clandestine PI or smoking femme fatale, the trench coat is laden with metaphorical concepts of both protection, mystery and that dose of stylish aloofness. The trench had grown quickly from a lighter raincoat alternative produced for soldiers during WWI into a classic item indispensable in any wardrobe. Of course, no one does the iconic coat like Burberry– the label which was commissioned by the War Office to produce the coats during WWI.

In an effort to bring the consumers’ minds back to the classic, Burberry launched a special website, Art Of The Trench, to showcase street portraits of people donning the Burberry trench in their own right and style. First to be a part of the project is the cyberspace’s quintessential street-style photographer, The Sartorialist. Over the course of a few months, The Sartorialist caught 100 people wearing the Burberry trench with flair. Spotted on people with vastly different sense of style, different sizes, age and background, the trench has proven itself to be an extremely versatile piece of clothing through this project, thus making the wearing of the trench coat an organic art form in itself. Check out some of The Sartorialist’s favorite shots from the project and visit Art Of The Trench for a full collection of shots. Have fun, peruse, and break out that trench coat in your closet next time you head out– rain or shine.

Step it up, folkers..
