Architecture: Point King Residence by HASSELL Architects

Radical..

Homes are not created equally, people. Just saying. It’s definitely where the heart is, but some homes just make you want to move out of yours and right into them immediately after seeing them. That’s what makes this section so cool. You get to experience a little taste of these incredible homes, without the need of abandoning your current residence. Don’t start packing just yet.

Located on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia, the Point King Residence is characterized by its cliff site positioning and orientation towards the north. The entire residence is situated two meters under ground level, which limits the visual obstruction for the rest of Point King and the Mornington Peninsula.

Created as a slatted timber box, the ground floor anchors the home, allowing the first floor to jut out over the cliff face making the most of the stunning surrounding views. The ironbark timber cladding will eventually fade to a shade of grey that mimics the Moonah trees indigenous to the region. The interior reflects the aesthetic theme of the exterior, using limestone excavated from the site and recycled timber battens.
