I want to take y’all Uptown for a minute, in NYC, early 90’s. Say what you want, but those were the glory days for sneaker heads for my friends and I. We were only kids back then, but a lot of the kicks that make comebacks now, were launching for the first time back then. We’ve kind of been desensitized to kicks these days, because so many models are dropped and classics just keep coming back, in which seems to be every other week. But back then, when you saw something new, it seriously blew your mind. And the Huarache from Nike was definitely one of those that had us going crazy.
Reflecting the “Concrete Jungle” nickname of the Big Apple, a “Cement City” iteration of the pioneering Nike Air Trainer Huarache is on tap for a release everywhere this week. Combining the original Tinker Hatfield-designed cross-training silhouette with a bold new Wolf Grey/Black-Volt color combination, the street-ready design dons a cement-speckled grey upper with black accents and a glow-in-the-dark rubber outsole as “NYC” heel embroidery caps off the look.
