Architecture: Sprecher House by SAOTA

Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects (SAOTA) have teamed up with interior design firm Antoni Associates on the Sprecher House in Hangklip, South Africa. The premise of the design was to create a holiday house inspired by the location’s indigenous surroundings, which is part of the Sea Farm Private Nature Reserve. Sitting on a rocky peninsula overlooking the sea and with views of Hangklip Mountain, the area is home to indigenous fynbos and vast forms of sea life.

One of nine exclusive areas in the region that are permitted in the reserve, the house’s occupants wanted a contemporary low maintenance weekend retreat away from their busy lives in Cape Town. Natural colors and materials were used in the design, which makes use of large verandas and big glass windows that allow natural light in. Living areas lie north-south to make the most of views of Hangklip Mountain, whilst protecting from the extreme Cape Coastal climate.
